Every page here deals with damage that starts with a fire: the room that burned, the smoke that travelled through the rest of the house, the soot it left on walls and belongings, the smell that stays behind, and the boarding-up that keeps weather and intruders out of a damaged house. Damage that did not begin with a fire is outside what this site covers.
Keeping to one kind of damage is what lets the guides go into detail. Our soot removal guide walks through how residue is actually cleaned, room by room and surface by surface, and the California fire insurance guide follows a claim from the first report to the final check.
Where the facts come from
We write from published sources and name them on the page: the U.S. Fire Administration, the American Red Cross, the California Department of Insurance, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health's guidance on cleaning up smoke and soot, among others. Where we couldn't find a source, the claim came out.
That is why the cost guide quotes national figures with the publisher and date of each one rather than a local price: we found no publisher that prices fire damage work in Chula Vista specifically. And it is why nothing on this site tells you how long a restoration will take. No authoritative source gives a typical figure, so we list the stages instead.
What you won't find here
No reviews, star ratings or before-and-after photos, because nobody has hired anyone through this site yet and we won't invent them. No street address, because we don't have premises you could visit. The photographs on these pages illustrate the kind of damage being described. None of them shows a job anyone did for us.
